Pinky Machmud is a ceramic artist. Her stories are convey through form, clay and glaze. She was born and raised in Indonesia. Since a young age and through her life, she is no stranger to moving regions and countries. Among these changes, one tradition ties the family: their weekend road trips. Her Dad weaves through the natural and urban landscapes with ease; and her Mom ensures Pinky and her two brothers are never without love. Memorable experiences which took root in her own family. Being part of the diaspora community in Australia, she approaches her art by exploring her cultural background. Sometimes, at odds with her tangible experiences. This internal debate helped her persevere, realizing her ceramic art practice is formative to the self-identity she yearns. Pinky calls beautiful Maitland, NSW her home; where she also based her art studio.
